Sad truth of the world: even if you are the most-awarded US gymnast in Olympic history, trolls on the Internet will still comment on your appearance. Luckily for all of us, when that happened to Simone Biles, the four-time gold medalist had the perfect comeback.
It all started with a very innocuous tweet in which Simone shared her excitement over becoming an honorary Texans cheerleader. It was a big moment for the native Houstonian to rep her hometown team, and she captioned the picture by saying, "Can't wait to cheer at my first game. Go Texans!" Unfortunately, along with the many congratulatory comments that poured in, Simone also had to deal with criticism of her look.
"[I love you] but sis your hair," one person commented. Simone replied by saying, "Just came straight from a four hour practice with my hair in a bun, excuse my hair." Another person replied, "You should've kept it in a bun." Not cool.
A lot of people front-hand-sprung to Simone's defense, in an attempt to remind haters that this moment wasn't about Simone's hair. "THANK YOU for being a positive inspiration to young girls," someone Tweeted. Another said, "Please don't respond to ridiculous comments about your hair. You have achieved more in your career than some of these people have achieved in their entire life!" Perhaps it is best summed up by the following Tweet from a fan: "Don't apologize. It's just hair. Do you."
The drama got so out of control that Simone actually had to release a statement defending her look. And although we're rolling our eyes that she had to respond, predictably, her clapback is perfect.
I have 1 question to everyone commenting about my hair when I genuinely look happy in the photo..
Do you look perfect ALL the time? 🤭
everything in perfect order.?

Of course, it's problematic that any woman should have to deal with comments about her appearance at work, but Simone's response shows she's just as graceful on the high beam as she is when taking down trolls. Here's to hoping her words influence fans to think twice before they tweet again.
