When we think of the hottest haircuts for 2016, styles like the shag, midi, and tapered Afro come to mind. But Facebook page Barbershapp recently shared a cut that is making us reconsider. The people behind Barbershapp declare this look "quirky, stylish, and smooth" and asked their followers if it's a new trend in the making.
In the video, we watch as a stylist carefully snips through layers of a woman's supersleek blond hair. The scissors slice through the strands, cutting tiered patterns that are reminiscent of crop circles. A few long pieces hang in front of her face, while the ends of her hair are heavily teased for dramatic effect. The finished look is similar to (but more avant-garde than) the go-to style Yolandi Visser, the lead singer of Die Antwoord.
It's definitely too soon to say if this bold look will catch on with the general public, but in the meantime, Facebook users have been sharing it nonstop out of disbelief. "I hope she was paid a lot of money to allow that to happen to her lovely long hair!" exclaimed user Linda Ann Powell. "I think I did this to myself at the age of 4 with a pair of safety scissors," cracked Elisa R Hutchings.
Sure, it's not a mainstream style, but we can definitely see it catching on in certain crowds — maybe the underground punk scene or even music festival fans would test this look out. Watch the video and decide for yourself.
