Adele shares a number of similarities with the late Amy Winehouse; she loves big hair, wearing winged eyeliner, and belting out vintage-sounding songs so beautiful they bring people to tears. On Wednesday, what would have been Amy's 33rd birthday, Adele shared a beautiful, happy photo of the "Rehab" singer on Instagram, writing, "Happy Birthday Amy X."
Amy, who struggled for years with drug and alcohol addiction, died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 in 2011, leaving behind a troubled but absolutely brilliant legacy. Adele has cited Amy's career as one of the main influences of her own success in the past, especially in an interview with Vice's i-D magazine in October 2015. "If it wasn't for Amy and [her 2003 debut album] Frank, one hundred per cent I wouldn't have picked up a guitar, I wouldn't have written 'Daydreamer' or 'Hometown' and I wrote 'Someone Like You' on the guitar too," she said, before adding, "I love Amy. I always have, I always will. Do you know what makes me super sad? That I'm never going to hear her voice again, other than how I've heard it."
