It's official: you should be eating avocado every single day.
Whether it's in the form of avocado toast, guacamole, or just the fruit on it's own, this is one grocery item that should be on your list every time you shop. According to a new study, avocados are one of the best ways to prevent metabolic syndrome, which is also know as "the new silent killer."
Metabolic syndrome is a term doctors use to describe patients who have three or more risk factors for heart disease and diabetes (such as high triglycerides, large waist circumference, and high blood pressure, and eating avocado can help beat a number of these factors.
Researchers examined 129 previous studies on the effects of avocado on your health in order to get to their conclusion. "The lipid-lowering, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, anti-obesity, antithrombotic, antiatherosclerotic, and cardioprotective effects of avocado have been demonstrated in several studies," wrote the authors. It's worth nothing that almost all of the studies the authors cited recommend eating the fruit on a daily basis.
Though most of the studies examined the fleshy inside of the avocado, consuming avocado oils, pills, skin, and leaves can also help.
So, here's just another reason to be proud of your avo-toast addiction.
