Awkwafina Thanks Loved Ones in a Heartfelt Golden Globes Speech: "Told You I'd Get a Job"

Congratulations are in order for Awkwafina! The 31-year-old actress made Golden Globe history by being the first performer of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe Award in a lead actress film category. While taking the stage to accept her award for best actress in a movie, musical or comedy, Awkwafina gave a few sweet shout-outs to her loved ones. "I'd like to dedicate this to my dad, Wally. I told you I'd get a job, dad," she joked. "And to my grandma, my best friend, the woman who raised me, and to my mother, Tia, who I always hope was watching from somewhere above, and I hope that she's watching now."
The Farewell centers around Awkwafina's character, Billi Wang, who visits her dying grandmother, Nai Nai (Zhao Shuzhen), in China. Unbeknownst to Nai Nai, she's been diagnosed lung cancer and only has a short amount of time left to live. The theme of love and familial relationships certainly struck a chord with Awkwafina. Watch her heartfelt acceptance speech ahead!
