Michelle Obama to Star in New Netflix Documentary, Becoming
A New Documentary on Michelle Obama is Coming to Netflix This May
A new Netflix documentary about the former First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama, will be gracing our silver screens this May.
Netflix, along with Michelle and Barack Obama's production company, Higher Ground, have announced that Becoming, will give viewers an intimate look at her life before and during her time in the White House. The film will also follow Obama's life behind the scenes during her 34-city book tour for her memoir of the same name.
The announcement comes after the former First Lady explained that her book tour would be unlike any other. "In groups large and small, young and old, unique, and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries, and dreams."
I'm excited to share that on May 6, @Netflix will release BECOMING, a documentary directed by Nadia Hallgren that shares the stories of the amazing people I met after the release of my memoir. During this difficult time, I hope you'll find some inspiration and joy in this film. pic.twitter.com/fqsIbhXYeL

Speaking on the choice of director, Nadia Hallgren, the mastermind behind After Maria, Michelle reveals: "It's hard these days to feel grounded or hopeful, but I hope that like me, you'll find joy and a bit of respite in what Nadia has made. She's a rare talent, someone whose intelligence and compassion for others comes through in every frame she shoots. Most importantly, she understands the meaning of community, the power of community, and her work is magically able to depict it."
Becoming is the latest documentary released by the iconic pair, who most recently produced the Oscar-nominated documentary American Factory. The former First Lady and President of the USA also have several projects on the way, including a drama series called Bloom set in the world of fashion in postwar New York.
