Kelly Ripa vs. Michael Strahan
Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan's alleged feud was the biggest thing to happen to morning talk shows since the Today show cast dressed up as life-ruining, nightmare versions of the Peanuts crew for Halloween. In early May, news broke that Michael was leaving Live With Kelly and Michael for a full-time position at Good Morning America. It seemed like a standard issue shakeup, but then Kelly was mysteriously and noticeably absent from Live's shows for two consecutive days. Reports of backstage drama quickly started surfacing, including the fact that Kelly was blindsided by the news of Michael's departure, and that she and Michael were no longer friends. According to a New York Times source, it all started when Kelly was "called to a meeting along with the show's longtime producer, Michael Gelman, and the WABC general manager, Dave Davis . . . She did not know the purpose of the meeting."
After being taken by surprise, Kelly refused to discuss any plans with ABC executives, ignored all of Michael's calls and texts, and was spotted carrying a copy of a Malcolm Gladwell book called David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants, which many took to be more than coincidence. Thankfully, Kelly soon returned to the show, and gave an opening monologue explaining that she "really needed a couple of days to gather [her] thoughts," and made sure to thank fans and congratulate Michael on his new job. He left the show on May 13, and ABC is still in the process of finding a permanent replacement.
