Tamirat Tola completed the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon in a record-breaking 2 hours, 4 minutes and 11 seconds. The Ethiopian participant's achievement is one that has never been seen in the Emirate's 17-year history of the 26-mile event but the athlete thinks he could've done even better. Unfortunately, his pal Kenenisa Bekele dropped out halfway through the course and he thinks he could have ran it in 2 hours and 3 minutes if it wasn't for losing his running mate.
Tamirat admits he had hopes of beating the world record to run a marathon too but gave up on that dream after doing 35km. An impressive 30,000 people took part in 2017's edition with a 10km course and a fun run also on the agenda this past Friday.
