Emirati Fencer Asma Al Janahi
Meet the 25-Year-Old Emirati Who's Smashing Stereotypes With Her Mighty Sword
With International Women's Day on the horizon, we're celebrating ladies all over the world and in the region as they demonstrate just how badass they are.
Asma Al Janahi only adds more proof to the pudding as she explains how she's shattering stereotypes to practice her fencing hobby. The engineer at local shopping site, Noon, admits that she gets funny reactions from people she tells about her love for the sport, as society largely thinks it's "dangerous and unsuitable for women." Still, it doesn't stop her from going after those medals and challenging herself to get even better.
"When I put on my mask I feel like all my energy and strength is released and there is nothing that can stop me," the self-labeled "fighter" says, adding that it's "considerably shaped [her] personality."
Well, if its works for her, we're all for it!
