You've seem them all over American TV shows and movies like Rush Hour and The Big Bang Theory, and you could be seeing them across the UAE if residents have their way.
Chinese takeout boxes are becoming a trend in the Middle East according to one Asian food brand. Prax's, which has outlets on Jumeirah Beach Road and Barsha Heights in Dubai, has reported that they're introducing oyster pails to the market here. The leak-proof origami boxes - which were invented by Chicago-based designer Frederick Weeks in 1894 - have customers super excited about emulating their screen idols.
"They are an extremely convenient and cool way of serving food," Prax's said about introducing them in their restaurants. "Until recently, oyster pails were an uncommon sight in the UAE. However, given the large expatriate crowd in the Emirate, and the exposure to oyster pails from popular American television shows and sitcoms that are broadcasted in the UAE, people are already well aware of what these Chinese takeout containers look like. Now, residents are very excited about it coming to Dubai.
"People recognize and associate the oyster pails with out brand. A lot of people have tried Prax's only after looking at our packaging".
As well as the US, the packaging is sometimes used in Germany, but funnily enough you won't find them in China or other Asian countries much.
We know what we're ordering for dinner tonight!
