Foods That Taste Just as Good (or Better) Cold

People are lazy, it's a fact of life. We like to cut corners and do things as quickly as possible. The three minutes it takes to reheat a meal can feel like an eternity when you're hungry. These 11 dishes make great leftovers and manage to taste even better cold than they do hot, trust us.

Mashed Potatoes

I recently made a huge pot of mashed potatoes [1] (my favorite potato dish) for dinner, and I wound up having to eat mashed potatoes for three days straight because of how much was left over. By the second day, I'd given up on microwaving them just to save time and, honestly, it wasn't half bad. This hack will make eating future Thanksgiving leftovers a lot easier.

I'm sure every college kid has had cold pizza at least once in their life. Eating it this way just makes sense. There's no danger of dropping melted cheese on yourself or of burning the roof of your mouth on scorching-hot sauce. Plus, microwaved pizza is basically soggy cardboard.

We've all made the mistake of cooking enough pasta [2] for a family of five when there's only one person eating, it happens. Eventually you have to start eating it cold just to free up the space in your fridge.

Mac and Cheese

Another noodle that tastes just as good hot as it does cold. Something about the way the noodles and cheese stick together makes it a tad more interesting than ooey-gooey mac 'n' cheese [3].

Pad Thai

As a Thai person, I'm a firm supporter in eating Thai food as often as possible. The cold pad Thai [4] noodles soak up all of the delicious sauce and make for a really simple lazy-day lunch.

Chinese Takeout

This is such as classic that it almost doesn't need to be included in this list, but I'll put it in anyway. There's something indescribable about day-after Chinese takeout that's so much better than when you get it hot.

Stop leaving your fruit out on the table. Stick those suckers in the fridge so you get to eat something doubly refreshing. Have you ever tried frozen grapes [5]?

Toast them, leave them at room temperature, or try them frozen. With so many ways to eat Pop-Tarts [6], you'll be able to eat these "pastries" for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

This is going to change your life. Have you ever had fresh curry [7] and found it almost unbearable to eat because of the spice level and the temperature of the dish? Well, those days are over. Chill your curry before you eat it and you'll find that the cool curry will negate the spiciness of the dish. It's genius!

Tomato Soup

With some soups served cold (ever hear of gazpacho?), it's no surprise that you could do the chilling yourself. Instead of wasting your time reheating leftover tomato soup [8], just eat it chilled. It's definitely a smart choice in warmer weather.
