Grandmas Project UNESCO

For This Brazilian Filmmaker, Lebanese Food Tastes Like Home

In the short film Mehchi, filmmaker Mathias Mangin interviews his 97-year-old grandmother, who is Lebanese.

The film is part of Grandmas Project, a web series collaboration with UNESCO that seeks to share the stories and recipes of grandmothers around the world.

In Mehchi, Mathias and his grandmother prepare a dish of stuffed grape leaves, and discuss the role Middle Eastern cuisine plays in their lives. "Although she cooks Lebanese food, for me, it's the taste of Brazil," the filmmaker says.

Showcasing the "inextricable link between food and culture," this heart-warming film is a must-see.
