His Instagram account went viral after the world noticed his rather flamboyant way of seasoning meat, but Nusret Gokce says his signature move didn't come about as a rest of simply showing off.
In fact, the way the butcher (also know as Salt Bae) sprinkles salt on his meat has a significant meaning. The Turkish co-owner of UAE-based restaurant chain, Nusr-et, told Hürriyet that the famous arm movement comes naturally.
"Actually that move at the end [salting] came automatically. I did not do that to show off. It is just my signature. You can think of it a kind of final touch for a painting. It was a final touch to the meat; I was blessing the meat," he explained.
The publication also revealed that despite not speaking English, he plans to open restaurants in New York and London in the coming months. An outlet is sure to do well in the latter location as a mural depicting his video which has been watched over 7 million times to date, was painted on a street in the city.
