With the E-Gates accepting ID cards and Ahlan services making sure passengers get through Dubai International airport's Terminal 3 as quickly as possible, you might think that DXB is as good as it gets, despite bing one of the busiest hubs in the world. However, Emirates airline, along with Dubai Customs, Dubai General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Police and Dubai Airports, is making the experience even better – starting now.
Over the next year to 18 months, you'll notice some snazzy new features that make air travel less of a pain.
Firstly biometric technology will use facial recognition to store passenger data in the UAE wallet. Registering is as easy as taking a selfie on a mobile phone or using a kiosk in the airport's lounges and check-in areas. It means moving through Departures smoothly as well as gaining access to areas such as the Business and First Class lounges easily if you have permission.
As well as e-gates and regular immigration counters, new One Gates will allow passengers to miss getting their passports checked by an immigration officer. Instead, the biometric data will do the work as you pass through the gates.
If only all air travel could be this easy!
