Updated: All Passengers Accounted For and Safe After Emirates Flight Makes Emergency Landing at DXB

Emirates Airlines flight EK521 traveling from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India to Dubai made an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport this afternoon. The flight was scheduled to land at DXB at 12:50pm, but crashed on its tail five minutes earlier than its scheduled arrival.

Images posted to social media show black smoke coming from the plane. Emirates has reported that all 300 passengers and crew are safe, though they have not yet released a cause of the accident.

As of 10:24PM local time, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum issued a statement via the Dubai Media Office announcing that one firefighter has died in connect with the accident. "We pay tribute to the firefighter who lost his life fighting the blaze. We thank all teams that dealt with the incident," he said.

The fire was put out by 3pm, and recent images show the entire roof of the plane burnt off.
