Temperatures have been reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius in the UAE this summer, but there's one place in the country that staycationers can go to escape the maddening heat. Jebel Jais is the highest mountain in the UAE and at 1,934 metres tall is a considerable 10 Celsius cooler than other spots in the United Arab Emirates.
The area, part of the Hajar mountain range in Ras Al Khaimah, is a bareable 31 Celsius during the day time and 27 Celsius during the late afternoon. It's a great scenic driving spot popular with hikers, campers and mountain bikers, which is famous for its winding roads.
Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, said: "While visitors and residents are looking to escape the heat with indoor activities across other areas of the UAE, Jebel Jais offers the opportunity for travelers and residents looking for outdoor adventures and diverse scenery at significantly cooler temperatures than at sea level, and incredible views of the stunning Ras Al Khaimah landscape."
