Saudi Arabia's First Cinema Opening April 18
Hold Up: Saudi Arabia's First Cinema Is Opening THIS Month
Saudi film aficionados are in for a pleasant surprise: in just two weeks, they can go to the movies. The first Saudi cinema in three decades will be open on April 18 – and in Riyadh, the much more conservative city in the Kingdom.
American AMC Entertainment has been given a license to open 40 cinemas in 15 Saudi cities in the next five years, reported The National.
The cinemas are nowhere near as plush as iPic Theaters which is also opening in KSA, so it looks like Dubai-based Vox will be their big competition.
While the movies that will be showing have not yet been announced, we hope it will be a just-released, blockbuster hit. There's nothing like watching an extreme action movie in a darkened theatre with surround sound and a bucketful of buttery popcorn in your lap. Looks like weekends in Saudi just got sorted.
