Global Village is known as the attraction that takes you around the world in one night, all without leaving Dubai. Now, the mega tourist hotspot is home to the largest car boot sale in the UAE.
If you need to make some extra cash just buy selling things you no longer want to hold on to, it's worth heading down to Parking Lot A between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. one Friday during its recording-breaking Season 22.
Much like America's famous flea markets, as the name suggests here, a Car Boot Sale involves setting up to make some extra cash using the trunk of the car you arrived in, so it's easy peasy.
"My father was an avid bargain hunter and took us to many auctions, factory outlets and of course car boot sales throughout our childhood," Rob Newbould, the founder of The Car Boot Sale said. "My father instilled in me the importance of thinking second hand first! Whether we were buying or selling.
"I've been in Dubai for the past seven-and-a-half years during which time I had never come across a car boot sale. It seemed like the obvious type of market to have here taking into account Dubai's transient population coupled with a dominant housing rental market."
Spots can be rented for AED150 and it's really worth the payment considering the money you could make from getting rid of toys, books, clothes and other items.
It's a great place to buy second-hand items too if you don't want to pay full price, and kids can stay entertained with a petting zoo, face painting opportunities, play area and more.
"Although it is a norm at festivals around the world, it has not trickled down to the GCC yet," Bader Anwahi, Global Village CEO, said. "Global Village is proud to bring this concept for the first time in the Middle East that allows guests to grab a bargain with so many choices in one convenient location. We continue our efforts towards bringing innovative concepts to the UAE that brings the society together and deliver unique experiences to our guests."
It's about time!
