A Beginner's Guide to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Everyone's talking about the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking place later this month, and if you have no idea why the region is getting excited about the sporting event's return to the Middle East, listen up.

The long weekend of Formula One racing takes place November 24-27, with fun festivities going on either side of the spectacular, so you're bound to enjoy the action whether you like motor sports or not. If it's your first time experiencing the F1, read on to find out what's what.

No matter your reason for heading to the area, attendees like to celebrate the F1 festivities even before they get there. Start the day with a good breakfast before things get busy. McGettigan's Abu Dhabi is offering a Full Irish Breakfast, one house beverage, a ride to Yas Island for the main event (plus a free drink at the bar afterwards) for AED99.

Thousands of people visit each year from 170 countries to watch the biggest racing stars whiz around the circuit. Even if you're no F1 expert, names like Christian Horner (Geri Halliwell's husband) and Lewis Hamilton (Nicole Scherzinger's ex) will be donning their racing gear ad creating some serious noise in the Marina area.

The Yasalam entertainment festival includes eight weeks of activations but it's the long weekend that really gets revellers excited. The Beats on the Beach line up includes Sean Paul, Nancy Arjam, Krept and Konan and The 5 performing gigs, meanwhile, Pitbull, Chemical Brothers, Lionel Richie and Rihanna will perform at the After-Race Concerts inside the du Arena.

Many restaurants in the area will be arranging special deals for the F1 occasion. 24 and 25 will see the brand new Roberto's Abu Dhabi organize a big red carpet party and from 7pm diners can enjoy a special a la carte or set menu followed by a party with a live DJ on the decks.

Hemingway's at Hilton Abu Dhabi has a special menu on offer with exciting new dishes such as the Mercedes Wrap and the Renault Emmental Baguette. The SIN Grand Prix party is offering a package where ladies pay AED1,000 for a trackside brunch from 1-4pm, an after-party at Rush 4-7pm, the Chemical Brothers gig and an after-after party at a secret location following the concert.

From Friday to Sunday, the Podium Lounge is the place to be for A-Lister after-parties from 10pm. Set inside Rush on the Yas Viceroy aerobridge, ladies have free entry all night while tables range from AED5,000-AED45,000. VIP Room's pop-up inside Cipriani will see Luciano and Paris Hilton DJ on the Friday while Drake performs on the Saturday. Surprise celebrity guests appear on the Sunday.

The F1 Village features a range of interactive entertainment for all members of the family to enjoy including a Public Pit Lane Walk and autograph signing. Abu Dhabi Grand Prix ticket holders also get complimentary passes for Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
