Egypt is the most popular travel destination among people in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the MENA Traveler Destination Leaderboard, and with so many cool places to check out, we're not surprised.
The country ranked #1 for the second year in a row, with Saudi Arabia also holding onto its spot at #2. Although trips to the latter are mainly for religious tourism, due to expats going back and forth and business, online travel marketplace, Wego, believes that with the changes in the country's entertainment industry and their desire for growth in the tourism sector, there will be an increase in domestic travel for this reason.
The UAE fell one spot, from #3 to #4, Kuwait stayed in the same place compared to quarter 1 in 2017 and the same period this year, currently sitting at #5. While Jordan went up one place to #6, Oman, jumped up four spots to #8. Experts believe this is likely because of the inauguration of the new Muscat airport, as well as the opening of a number of hotels and facilities.
On the list for the Top 25 Global destinations that MENA residents like to visit, Arab countries also did well, with a bunch of them making it to the top of the list of countries to visit in the world.
The takeaway from this is that whether it's for work, cheaper flights, better weather or convenience, people in the region don't want to venture too far from home for an adventure.
