Though the northern Morocco city of Chefchaouen is small (population: approx 35,000), it's turning heads with each Instagram someone uploads of the picturesque town. Sweeping views of the sea and lush foliage would be enough to make this place photo-worthy, but it's the fact that the entire city is painted in different shades of blue that makes it particularly unique. Though there are several theories about why the city was painted blue in the first place (some believe that blue keeps mosquiotes away; others think that Jewish refugees painted it blue in the 1930s), everyone agrees that the color is calming.
