Weddings in India, more often than not, come with "conditions apply" — they have the caste, the culture and above everything else, the religion. If none of them match, the differences in your faith can very well put a full stop to your love story. However, for Dubai-based newlyweds, Junaid Shaikh, who is a Muslim and Garima Joshi, who is a Hindu, love won over everything and they finally got their happily ever after.
The couple met at Symbiosis International University in Pune, India, back in 2006. But it wasn't until years later, while doing their Masters from Dubai, they bumped into each other again and fell in love.
Sure, like any other inter-faith marriages, they faced a whole deal of opposition from their families initially. But as they say, love conquers everyone and everything because their parents eventually gave approval for their marriage.
Once the wedding date was set, they decided to do away with both the Hindu and Muslim religious ceremonies and instead just celebrate and dance the night away with their loved ones.
Their social media game was also quite strong with a hashtag, #ShaikhItWithJosh, that celebrated the beautiful moment of the two cultures amalgamating into one. Their amazing journey was also documented beautifully in this dream-like video by Shutterdown Photography. The video has had over 67,000 views since it was posted on April 17.
