A small Polish town located about 70km northeast of Krakow is covered in flowers--but not in the way you think. Back in the 1800s, when furnaces with chimneys began to get installed in homes throughout the town, women took brushes made of cow hair and painted floral designs on the black surfaces to brighten up their homes.
The tradition continued and expanded, and over the years, floral motifs covered surfaces inside and outside Zalipie's homes, linens on beds and tables, and even churches around the town.
This centuries-old tradition can still be seen today, and it's truly like a fairy tale.
