One of life's greatest mysteries has been solved, but not everyone is happy with the answer.
All those debates about whether GIF--or the acronym for Graphics Interchange Format--is pronounced with a hard "G" as in "gift" or a soft "G" can come to an end. According to GIF's creator, it's "jif," as in the peanut butter brand. In an interview with the New York Times, the GIF's creator, Steve Wilhite, cleared things up: "The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations," he said. "They are wrong. It is a soft 'G,' pronounced 'jif.' End of story."
Not everyone is happy with the findings though...
