What wedding traditions did you keep? My dad walked me down the aisle (or, the field, as it were) because he really wanted to do that. We integrated a honey ceremony (Persian tradition) into our ceremony using honey from my dad's beehives and a ring dish created by Paloma's Nest with a Carl Sandburg poetry quote written on it.
What wedding traditions did you ditch? We switched any language that read as patriarchal, because we are both committed to human rights and women's issues as a couple. We didn't do a bouquet toss (I loved my flowers too much). Our officiant was Muslim, and part of our ceremony included a Mahmoud Darwish poem spoken in Arabic. Darwish, one of our favorite poets, had died the day of our wedding. It was a last minute decision, and we were glad to include it.
