If you could have done anything differently, what would it be? I would have started the wedding earlier! We were the last people to leave the party and I honestly did not want it to end. There were a few moments between dances and speeches and pictures and cake-cutting that it felt like quite a long to-do list! You only get one wedding day, so you might as well enjoy it for as long as you can. Also, hire a videographer or have a friend bring a video camera. It goes by so fast and it it doesn't even seem real the next day. You'll want to watch it later, I promise!
I feel like a lot of couples get stuck in the idea that their wedding day is their one and only moment to express themselves as a pair. So not true! I absolutely wanted ours to reflect us, but I also knew that every person that was there was special and important to us, and already knew what kind of a couple we were so I tried not to put that pressure on myself. Of course it's a big, important day, but it's still just one day in a whole lifetime of memories. Choose what you like, do what makes sense to you, not just what you're "supposed to do," and have some fun. It'll come together!
How did you stay sane during the planning process? Take a break from planning. People ask every other day what's going on with the wedding and how it's coming along, but it's OK not to be planning every hour of every day until the wedding. Take a week off, or more! Also step away from the blogs. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning scouring wedding blogs and Pinterest boards too many times. It doesn't help a stressed out bride-to-be to also be a tired and cranky one! At a certain point, I had to walk away from my computer because it was making me crazy! Sure, there is a place and a definite need for all of the amazing images and advice (hopefully like this!) out there, but it helps to shut it off, even if just for a few days.
What's your best advice for brides-to-be? When you wake up that day, let it all go and enjoy yourself. My wedding planner was an hour late, the bar was set up in the wrong place at the reception, we were short one bridesmaid bouquet, and someone from the venue was actually stringing lights on a tree during the maid of honor speech! None of those little things affected the awesomeness of our day.
