For the last 10+ years they have used only "real" women of various sizes, ethnicities and ages in their campaigns. And a decade on, Dove is recommitting to their pledge of using no models and no digital distortion in their ads. This time they've teamed up with famed photographer, Mario Testino, a man who has worked with the likes of Kate Moss and Gigi Hadid.
It stars 32 women and girls aged 11-71 from 15 countries, one of them being pregnant Marisa from Iran. The Middle Eastern woman will not only appear in their online adverts but she and her burgeoning belly strike a pose to be on display in New York too. The financial analyst found a new love for her body after getting pregnant and over the last 13 years that Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty has been running, the same could be said for many of us.
"A photographer has a choice – they can take a picture and make it about themselves by using avant-garde techniques, sometimes capturing the weakness in women, or they can choose to give their picture over to the woman in front of the lens by making her look herself and feel her most powerful," Mario says about his involvement with the campaign.
Among the others to appear is a soccer-lover who started her own club for girls in Mexico, and a Paralympian who lost her leg to cancer.
