Horse therapy is a now a globally-recognized way to help boost confidence and increase the feeling of social inclusion. So it's great to see that a UAE-based charity is looking to the animals to help the special needs children they work with. FUNN in Sharjah has an Equine Photography For Special Needs workshop which introduces young people to horses through taking pictures, and they use "specially-designed methods to promote emotional growth."
"Our ultimate goals are to create equal opportunities for children with special needs and encourage society to embrace them and understand the challenges they face. This workshop is aimed at engaging young people in recreational and therapeutic activities, trying out a new hobby and discovering new talents," Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of FUNN, said."We need to empower children with different abilities and daily challenges through organizing workshops, seasonal camps, film festivals, and similar leisure and artistic activities. Many of these children are exceptionally gifted and with the right encouragement, we can help them to harness their artistic talents, hone their creative skills and provide them with the guidance, support and direction to truly realize their full potential."
They say never work with children or animals but this looks like a winning formula!
