Famous dog groomer Jess Rona basically lives our dream life; as an A-list dog groomer, she spends her days hanging with celebrity pups like Marnie the Dog and running one of Instagram's most beloved accounts. And when she's not busy primping pups, she's directing them in this hilarious doggy Valentine's Day commercial for Liquid-Plumr, too.
Friends! I got to direct this video of the most gorgeous pup getting ready for her #VDayDoggyDate! I'm so excited to share this with the world. Since pet hair is one of the main causes of clogged drains, I teamed up with #liquidplumr to give my pipes a little TLC. Take break and watch the most glorious poodle on the internet get pampered. #ad
We recently got the chance to catch up with Jess Rona via email for her expert grooming advice and even tips on how to train your dog to do her favorite party trick.
On How to Manage Your Dog's Groomer-Related Anxiety
Do you shower your pup with loads of extra love and attention before dropping him off at the dog groomer? Celebrity dog groomer Jess Rona wants you to resist the urge to do that, and with good reason.
Apparently treating your dog to tons of extra attention before the groomer's can lead to even more anxious behavior once you've left him behind. Jess Rona told POPSUGAR via email, "The more you pet and cuddle a nervous dog, the more nervous they get. I promise I will snuggle them the minute you leave and they'll be happy babies."
How to Teach Your Pup to Give You a Squeeze
"Sit on the floor with a bag of yummy treats or chicken, tap your shoulders, and say 'gimme a hug,' and when your pup jumps up with their paws on your shoulders, give them a treat. Always keep a calm/confident energy when training your dog, and have patience. I had to do it over and over till my dog got it. It's so fun to show off at parties too."
On At-Home Grooming Touch-Ups
"If you want a fluffy dog, you've got to get a good brush — I love the large wooden slicker by Chris Christensen — and brush your fur baby. Sometimes people are hesitant to do touch-up grooming at home because of the mess, but if you have a little vacuum, some Liquid-Plumr for drain care afterward, and treats around, you're golden. And that means less brushing at the groomers."
