Pets get names in the strangest ways – trust me, North knows – be it from a person, place, thing, or something else entirely. Well, Veterinary Pet Insurance (the country's largest and oldest provider), recently took tally of their 477,000 registered pets to see how many shared surnames with US presidents. After taking out ones that could double as fairly traditional human names – like Madison and Jackson – they counted up the number of dogs, cats, birds, and other exotic pets that had names in common with presidents. Find out who tops this list (then vote for your favorite) in this slideshow.
There were two Roosevelts that lived in the White House and I'm not sure which contributed more to the 14 animals with that name – from FDR (and his beloved Fala) to Teddy's menagerie of snakes, dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, a badger, and six kids, both of these former presidents account for the eighth surname on this list.
I know I'm not the only one who describes my dog's eating habits as hoovering! Whether it came from the vacuums or this man himself, there are 36 registered pets that have it.
There's a big leap to Reagan – a whopping 103 animals of all kinds have a common name with this former president (seen here with the two dogs who shared the White House with him).
The man who pardoned and kept the first presidential turkey as a pet ("Jack"), Lincoln tops the list with 105 animals. Are you surprised?!
