It's official. The baby polar bear born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio was given the name Nora. Zoo staff set up an online poll to decide the name, and after more than 88,000 votes were cast, the name Nora beat out the other options: Desna, Kaya, and Sakari.
"We are thrilled and inspired that so many people around the world helped name this young polar bear," said Tom Stalf, president and CEO, in the zoo's official announcement video. "We hope that those who have been watching Nora grow will continue to do so throughout her life, and remember that we all have a role to play in protecting wild polar bears for generations to come."
