First, go to your settings. Tap the general section.
Here, head to the Keyboard area.
Tap on the arrow next to word "Keyboards."
Click "Add New Keyboard."
On this list, select Japanese.
Make sure to tap the "Kana" keyboard and not the "Romaji" one.
Open up a text message and hit the globe icon.
Tap on the ^_^ face.
At the far right, hit the up arrow.
Select whichever emoticon you'd like to use!
