Raccoon Riding on Garbage Truck

This Raccoon Hitched a Ride on the Back of a Trash Truck and It Was So Relatable

When Helena B. Evich spotted a raccoon riding on the back of a garbage pick-up truck, she just knew she had to do something about it. Evich, a reporter at Politico who lives in Arlington, VA, took a photo of the furry animal and alerted the driver to send help.

"I felt bad for the little bugger even tho raccoons are kind of the worst," she tweeted right after. The initial photo of the raccoon has now racked up more than 5,000 retweets and 12,000 "likes". ARL Now, a local news site in Arlington, also reported about the bizarre raccoon chase.

"As soon as we found out that the raccoon was on the truck, the driver pulled over because we didn't want the raccoon to get injured," said Anna Wilkinson, the communications director for the garbage company to ARL Now. The raccoon reportedly traveled seven miles from Rosslyn to Falls Church before Wilkinson notified the Falls Church Police Department to send out its animal control team.

"The raccoon avoided capture and escaped towards the Larry Graves park area," said an official report from the city of Falls Church.

While it appears that the raccoons wild adventure ended on a positive note, we couldn't help but relate to the little guy who summed up how most of us feel hanging on to 2017 even though it's already a pile of garbage.
